About the Coalition
Working Together, We Make Brownfields Work
The Brownfields Coalition is a partnership of the Department of Ecology, King County, the Environmental Coalition of Seattle (ECOSS), Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and CTED. We formed the coalition to help local governments, property owners, developers, city planners and others navigate the complicated world of brownfields redevelopment.
We’re not a regulatory group, but a cooperative that acts as your partner throughout the whole process, from assessment to opening day of your new building. By working with the coalition, investors and developers can know from the start what the cleanup will entail and cost.
The Brownfields Coalition:
Makes low-interest loans to local governments and property owners to clean up brownfields
Links loan recipients with other brownfields programs for help with assessment and more
Streamlines the process of cleanup and redevelopment by collaborating with federal, state and local agencies
Our primary function is funding cleanup through the
Brownfields Loan Fund (BLF).
However, it takes a lot of work just to get to the point where you’re ready to borrow money for cleanup. After cleanup, you’ll probably need help with a lot of other logistics too. So we help you with all the other
steps of cleaning up and redeveloping a brownfield
. We can also help you find funding for
redevelopment
. Working together, we’re able to share resources and streamline processes for you.
Where your property is located within the state of Washington determines your point of
contact
within the coalition. If you’re not sure whom to contact, just get in touch with any one of us and we’ll point you in the right direction.
