Washington State Victim Assistance Academy

 
The Washington State Victim Assistance Academy is a project of the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy, funded by the federal Office for Victims of Crime. The Academy provides unique 40 hour training for crime victim advocates and related professionals.  Academy participants engage in experiential learning, hands-on activities and networking in a supportive environment.  The 40-hour course is comprised of classes that provide the basic knowledge necessary to Victim Service Providers when working with victims of crime.  SVAA faculty consists of outstanding state leaders and expert practitioners in the field of victimology who are familiar with issues faced by victims of crime. 
 
The Academy was developed in collaboration with Crime Victim Compensation Program, Criminal Justice Training Commission, Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, Washington Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates and the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs.
